Activity

"The Kabuki," created by the 20th-century master choreographer Maurice Béjart, is based on Japanese Kabuki

This is a unique performance created based on the famous Kabuki play Kanadehon Chushingura (The Treasury of Loyal Retainers), incorporating elements of Japanese culture such as the spirit of "giri" (duty) that drives the Japanese to avenge their lord.

The Tokyo Ballet is the only company in the world allowed to perform "The Kabuki"

The Tokyo Ballet, which marked its 60th anniversary in August 2024, has performed over 770 shows internationally. Recognized as a "world-class ballet company born in Japan," it has earned acclaim both at home and abroad.

The Tokyo Bunka Kaikan is a prestigious hall dedicated to the cultural and artistic heritage of Japan

This is a cultural facility representing Japan, constructed as part of the 500th anniversary project of the opening of Tokyo, designed by Kunio Maekawa, who studied under Le Corbusier.

[WAmazing Play Original] Immerse yourself even deeper into the world of "The Kabuki" with a post-performance tea time accompanied by interpretive commentary

A staff member from The Tokyo Ballet will escort you to a café, Ueno Seiyoken, located within the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. Depending on your needs, we can provide an interpreter who speaks English, Chinese, or Korean. You can enjoy the performance even more by learning about the behind-the-scenes stories and having your questions answered after the show.

The Tokyo Ballet's wonderful performance is beyond words, and "The Kabuki", which combines Japanese and Western culture, is both shocking, surprising and touching. You can see the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan as soon as you leave the park entrance of Ueno Station, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. The lunch tea meals at the event were exquisite and delicious, and listening to the explanations by professional commentators deepened my impression and understanding of the play. It is a recommended experience activity to fully enjoy the perfect artistic feast. PS: Since there were so many people on site that day, I was not sure where the afternoon tea location was at first. If you can add a photo of the meeting location to the reservation, I believe the process will be smoother.

A great value for money ballet, more shocking and amazing than any ballet I have seen before! The only pity is that the rest time is too short and the queue for the toilet is too long. I almost didn’t have time to watch the second act even if I only went to the toilet! Because the venue was so big, it took about 5 minutes to find a seat. The venue was almost full that day, and there were not enough people to arrange the seats on site. The Chinese information is not complete enough, and it is a pity that I cannot quickly understand the ins and outs of the dance drama in a short time. During the afternoon tea, the chocolate cake was a bit too sweet and the hot coffee turned into lukewarm coffee. I would like to visit again next time I have a chance! A great value for money ballet, more shocking and amazing than any ballet I have seen before! The only pity is that there was too much rest time in between. I had to go to the toilet in just 20 minutes and almost didn’t have time to watch the second act!
