The famous world heritage site, Shirakawa-go, located at the base of one of Japan's Three Famous Mountains, Mt. Haku, can be reached by car via Hakusan Shirakawa-go White Road in about 60 minutes. It can also be reached by car in about 60 minutes from Kanazawa. The public bath area’s open air bath, featuring onsen water flowing directly from the hot spring source, is surrounded by forests so you can bathe among the trees. You can enjoy a kaiseki (banquet dish) meal consisting of the riches of the woodlands, including wild game meat (boars) from Hakusan, Hakusan river-grown char grilled with salt, river-grown rainbow trout, and organic and chemical-free seasonal vegetables grown by local farmers - all cooked over the charcoal fire of an irori in a dining area located inside a reconstructed 100-year-old traditional Japanese house. With one of Ishikawa Prefecture’s largest ski resorts located only 1 minute away by foot, and with a shuttle bus service in operation from Komatsu Airport during the ski season, this area is certainly a place where you can immerse yourself in nature and the Japanese culture of the good old days all year round.
