Features of Awara Onsen
With a history of more than 100 years, Awara Onsen is one of the most famous hot spring resorts in Fukui Prefecture, and is known as the "inner sanctuary of Kansai" loved by many literary figures and celebrities. Sukiya-style (a style of architecture derived from teahouse aesthetics) accommodation and unique modern inns give Awara Onsen a special atmosphere. The long-established inns, home to beautiful gardens, are also worth a visit. Here you can savor seafood delicacies from the Sea of Japan while gazing at beautiful, manicured gardens for a truly tranquil moment. A popular spot in this area is Tojinbo, a rare geological phenomen of hexagonal columns of rock created by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan. There are only three places in the world that has this unusual terrain, and it has been designated as a national natural monument. Awara Onsen is about 2 hours by Limited Express train from Osaka Station, and about 3 hours by Hokuriku Shinkansen and Limited Express train from Tokyo Station.
