Beppu City, known as the capital of hot springs, is one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts with an abundance of hot springs with hundreds scattered throughout the city. Some include Beppu Onsen, Hamawaki, Kankaiji, Horita, Myoban, Kannawa, Shibaseki, and Kamegawa, all of which have different types of hot springs. The area is easily accessible by train and bus, and the entertainment district is lively at night. Nearby is the Aso-Kuju National Park, where there are many natural attractions including Miyama-kirishima flowers, Mount Tsurumi-dake and Lake Shidaka.
