Features of Naruko Onsen
Naruko Onsen is one of the largest hot spring villages in Japan, consisting of five hot springs: Naruko, Higashi-Naruko, Kawatabi, Nakayamadaira, and Onikobe, all within an hour's train ride from Sendai Station. The area has been famous as a therapeutic hot spring resort in the Tohoku region since ancient times. Nine of the eleven types of hot springs in Japan are located here, with more than 370 hot spring sources and an excellent reputation for health benefits and quality. The steam rising from the hot springs, the smell of sulfur drifting in the air, the narrow alleys and the rows of souvenir shops all add to the special Japanese hot spring atmosphere. Naruko Gorge is must-see for seasonal colors, with fresh greenery in spring and colorful leaves in autumn. Naruko Kokeshi Dolls and Naruko lacquerware are popular souvenirs among visitors here. The seasons are beautiful with greenery in spring, colored leaves in autumn, and snow for skiing in winter.
