Features of Zao・Kaminoyama Onsen
Zao Onsen is a strongly acidic and sulfuric spring that is known to make the skin whiter and smoother, giving it the name of "princess water" or as water that makes women beautiful. At an altitude of 900 meters, the resort is about 10 degrees cooler in summer than downtown Yamagata. Trekking is popular not only as a way to escape the heat, but also to enjoy the colors of the mountains across the seasons. In winter people flock to Zao Onsen Ski Resort, one of the largest ski resorts in Japan.
