Tochigi Prefecture is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Nikkō Tōshō-gū Shrine. The prefecture is blessed with a rich variety of hot springs: the leisurly hot spring of Kunigawa Onsen, Nasu-yumoto at Takahara Resort, the low-key movie location of Kita onsen, and the off-the-beaten path location of Kaniyu - a place that can be only accessed by foot. There is also plenty of fantastic food to eat. Give the Utsunomiya gyoza or Sanno ramen a try. Tochigi is also the largest producer of strawberries in Japan as well. Nikko and Kunigawa can be reached from Tokyo by express train, while Utsunomiya and Nasu can be easily reached by Shinkansen.
