Activity

This is a hands-on program where you can actually cut a tree with a saw under the guidance of a professional lumberjack.

You will go into the mountains with professional lumberjacks contracted to manage the forests, cut down trees, and you will receive guidance from the mountaineers.

Participants try their hand at making wood candles with a chainsaw from a tree they cut down.

Wood candles are logs with notches cut into them, and then lit directly and used for bonfires.

You will be cooking outdoor dishes on a fire made with handmade wooden candles and enjoy lunch at a traditional Japanese Kominka house.

Schedule

  • Meeting / Reception

    Please present the reservation screen on My Page at the reception. After the explanation of the overall course of the tour and precautions, we will move to the mountain.

  • Visit the site where trees are cut down

    We will enter a mountain forest and observe lumberjacks cutting down trees. Under the guidance of the lumberjacks, participants will actually cut down a tree with a saw.

  • Wood candle making experience

    Chainsaws are used to make wood candles from cut-down trees.

  • Move to Itoan to make and eat lunch

    Participants will enjoy lunch at "Itoan", a 300-year-old traditional Japanese Kominka house, where they will cook outdoor meals together using local seasonal ingredients.

  • End of the experience

The fees are for the tour in the forest, wood candle workshop, for the guided tour, lunch, use of the traditional Kominka house, and insurance.
