Activity

Suifu Chochin is one of Japan's three major paper lanterns

It is said that Mito is one of the three major lantern production areas in Japan, along with Gifu and Yame (Fukuoka Prefecture).

Make lanterns with a history of about 400 years

During the Edo period, the production of Suifu Chochin lanterns played a crucial role in sustaining the livelihood of the residents of Mito.

"魁" (Sakigake) Inscription Plan

Mito is known as the city of Sakigake (pioneers). Following the draft, you can write the character "魁" (Sakigake) on the lantern, which is considered the symbol of Mito.

Apart from the characters, you can create your own design

You can freely draw any design you like in the blank spaces, so you can create your own Suifu Chochin lantern.

It's lightweight and compact, so it's recommended as a souvenir

Lanterns are popular as souvenirs because they can be neatly folded and do not take up much space, which is essential when traveling.

    Frame is assembled, and wire is wound around.

    Apply glue and paste the painted paper.

    Once you've finished applying the paper, allow it to dry, and then it will be complete.
