Activity

Located at Kamakura, an area popular among tourists for its history and lush nature, that is around a 1 hour train ride away from Tokyo

The event will take place in a zen shrine with around 650 years of history, with zazen instructions by the head priest.

Experience it whilst viewing the beautiful garden in the zen temple built in style of traditional Japanese architecture

The event is held in a privately rented out Zen temple in the precincts of Engakuji Temple

Included with a photography session by a pro cameraman

After finishing, relax in the tea room built 80 years ago, chatting with your instructors whilst drinking tea.

Schedule

  • Orientation and kimono dressing with guidance from a professional Kimono Dresser

After hearing the orientation of the whole experience, the professional Kimono Dresser will help you change into a kimono. Please present the My Page reservation screen at the reception.

  • Zazen (Japanese meditation) instruction and experience

You will be guided by the priest on how to zazen and will take part in it as well. Zazen is traditionally a spiritual activity done by the samurai as a way of life. The iai must be done with zen in the soul when cutting and is largely different from just swinging your sword.

  • Learn the Precautions and sword drawing from the instructor.

after zazen, learn the "kata", which is the safe way to cut from the instructor.

  • Cutting experience (Including snapshots from a professional cameraman)

After, whilst holding the Japanese sword, you will cut the "omotetatami" (rolled tatami mat) with heart, soul, and body as one. You are sure to feel a special something after cutting and will definitely be at loss for words at the beauty of the sword and the cut you produced on the tatami mat. This also included snapshots by a pro cameraman. So once finished, all your friends and family can view you reliving the life of the samurai of the past.

  • Finish with a cup of tea and a questionnaire

At the end of the event, drink tea with your instructor in the garden, so you can spend some time talking to them.
