Pakkun Rock is a popular Instagram-worthy spot!

Pakkun Rock, a huge rock that resembles a gaping mouth, is located halfway up the Mt. Hoko hiking trail. Its peculiar shape, which looks like the popular Japanese video game character Pac-Man, makes it a fun subject for photos. Take photos that make it seem like Pac-Man is about to devour you.

Led by guides who have firsthand knowledge of the mountains

There are many captivating spots found atop Mt. Hoko, including one of Kyushu's most gorgeous autumn foliage, Hokodake Falls, the monolithic rocks, and the rare plants that blossom exclusively here. The local guide, who knows the mountain inside out, will safely lead you through its most notable features.

Recommended for beginners wanting to take up mountaineering seriously!

It takes about 1.5 hours one way from the base of the mountain to Pakkun Rock. It is moderately steep and both beginners and experienced climbers can enjoy the hike.

Schedule

  • 9:00 AM - Meet up at Shishigawa Campsite. We will explain the precautions.

    Please present the My Page reservation screen at the reception desk.

  • 9:15 AM - Depart Shishigawa Campsite. Start trekking.

    Together with your guide, you will hike up the trail. The guide will alert you to potentially hazardous areas and carefully lead you to the highlights and most breathtaking locations.

  • 11:00 AM - Arrive at Pakkun Rock, take photos

    Once you cross the river, you will find Pakkun Rock. Let's all decide on a pose and take a photo together. You are welcome to share the pictures you capture on social media.

  • 12:00 PM - Descend and return to Shishigawa Campsite

    We will safely descend with the guide.
