Activity

Embark on a journey to uncover stories forged over a thousand years of ironmaking

Yasugi and Oku-Izumo are deeply connected to the tradition of Tatara iron-making. This tour invites you to explore heritage sites linked to the story and cultural assets of the Japan Heritage "Izumo no Kuni Fudoki"—a collection of oral narratives compiled in the early 8th century as a report to the imperial court—while engaging with current practitioners and finding inspiration for your own future.

Experience the spirit of the samurai with a sword-drawing (batto) session at the Okuizumo Tatara Sword Museum

At the Okuizumo Tatara Sword Museum, you can explore the tradition of tatara iron-making and the history of swords. You'll have the chance to hold a sword and try batto, the act of drawing a sword from its scabbard. This hands-on experience offers a deeper understanding of samurai spirit and mindset, allowing you to connect with Japanese historical culture in a meaningful way.

Experience zazen (seated Zen meditation) at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, one of the oldest temples in the San'in region, founded in 587

At Kiyomizu-dera, an ancient Tendai Buddhist temple that represents the San'in region, you can experience zazen meditation in a sacred setting. It’s a rare opportunity to quiet the mind, reflect inwardly, and cultivate a lasting sense of inner peace.

Enjoy a relaxing time at Saginoyusou—a premium ryokan just a short walk from Adachi Museum of Art

The Adachi Museum of Art has consistently ranked first in the Japanese garden rankings by the US-based "Journal of Japanese Gardening." Just a minute’s walk away is Saginoyusou, a long-established ryokan that first opened in 1909. Unwind in this premium retreat with natural hot spring baths, refined cuisine, traditional Japanese architecture, and serene gardens.
