Activity

Paint your very own original Akabeko (red cow figurine) or Okiagari-Koboshi (roly-poly toy)!

Why not paint patterns on the lucky charms, Akabeko (red cow figurines) and Okiagari-Koboshi (roly-poly toys), known for their charming movements, and create your very own original masterpiece? By adding colors, you’ll create a one-of-a-kind handmade craft that carries a warm, personal touch!

It’s enjoyable for everyone, regardless of age or gender, from women and men to young children!

It is a simple process that can be enjoyed by the whole family, from young children to the whole family.

Experience Aizu’s traditional crafts!

Traditional crafts from the Aizu region are displayed and sold at the Aizu Machikata Denshokan (Folklore Museum). You can also enjoy a painting session.

Schedule

  • Meet-up / Reception

At the time of your reservation, please go to the cash register at the Aizu Machikata Denshokan (Folklore Museum) and provide the staff with the name of the person who made the reservation.

  • Feel free to enjoy painting the Akabeko or Okiagari-Koboshi.

Start by placing the paint on the palette, then freely paint with a brush. There are sample designs available, but feel free to create your own original artwork. If the paint takes time to dry, you can use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process while continuing to work.
(*For those who choose the Aizu Cotton option, at the end of the painting process, you will cut the scrap of Aizu cotton fabric into your preferred shape and finish by wrapping it around the figurine with glue.)

  • End of the activity

Once the paint dries, your one-of-a-kind swaying Akabeko and Okiagari-Koboshi will be complete. A restroom is also available for visitors to wash their hands.

  • Visit the facility

Inside the museum, traditional Aizu crafts are on display and for sale. If you have time, you can enjoy a tour and shopping.
