Travel back in time to the Showa era at Wakasa Station—a terminal station full of nostalgia

Get up close and personal to the railway facilities with your very own Wakasa Railway guide and discover the steam and diesel locomotives that have been around since the line opened 100 years ago! (Includes admission to paid areas)

Stroll through the quaint post town

Enjoy the atmospheric post town where time seems to stand still as you stroll through the streets lined with storehouses and temples, listening to the sound of running water from the nearby stream.

Experience culture and tradition with Wakasa's historic townhouses

Tour a traditional townhouse, learn about the local craft of earthenware bells and experience Dagashi sweets culture!

Take a matcha break at a specialty store

Enjoy a break from your exploring with matcha specially selected by the owner and sweets at a specialty tea store.

Recharge at Wakasa's popular spiritual spot!

Visit the forest home to Wakasa Shrine's guardian deity. Avid stamp collectors can add local stamps to the collection, with train, station, and castle stamps available in addition to the special Goshuin stamps available at Wakasa Shrine and Wakasa Benzaiten!


Schedule

  • 12:30pm: Meet in front of the ticket gate at Tottori Station 12:49pm: Take the train to Wakasa Station (JR Inbi Line/Wakasa Railway)

    You will be greeted by your English or Chinese- speaking guide so please inform them of the reservation name upon meeting. You will then board the local train for a short trip to Wakasa Station. Be sure to enjoy the amazing scenery on the way!

  • 1:55pm: Arrive at Wakasa Station and enjoy a guided tour provided by a Wakasa Railway staff member (approx. 30 min)

    Learn all about the railway facilities which originally opened around 100 years ago from a Wakasa Railway staff member. Get up close and personal with the turntable, steam and diesel locomotives and enjoy taking your own shots of the photogenic trains and station building supervised by the great industrial designer Eiji Mitooka himself!

  • 2:30pm: Enjoy a guided tour of the historic post town (approx. 1 hour)

    Visit the Wakasa Folk Craft Museum and the Showa Toy Museum while enjoying the old storehouses and quaint streets. You will also have the chance to collect your Goshuin stamp at Wakasa Shrine (only available when the chief priest is free).

  • Enjoy tea at Uruwashi Japanesete, a specialist tea store

    Rest your feet while enjoying matcha and sweets carefully selected by the owner.

  • 4:12pm: Return to Tottori Station via Wakasa Station (JR Inbi Line/Wakasa Railway)

    5:19pm: The tour will disband upon arrival at Tottori Station.
