Activity

Create a pen case, eyeglass case, or a few small accessories from start to finish with the same tools artisans use. No equipment needed—you can come empty-handed.

Punch holes into the cut leather for sewing, then hand-stitch it. Decide what you will make, choosing the colors of the leather and thread as you work.

Use leather cashmere and natural leather from native Japanese deer.

Deerskin, long cherished in Japan since ancient times, is lightweight, supple, soft, and highly moisture-absorbent.

The experience utilizes every part of deer culled for pest control, offering insight into the local community.

In recent years, the overpopulation of deer in Japan has had serious impacts on agriculture and forestry. At the host's studio, various products are created using deerskin sourced from animals culled nearby, making the most of its unique qualities.

Located just one train ride from Kyoto, Himeji, Okayama, or Tottori. Enjoy the rural landscapes by local railway.

With the Chizu Express connecting Kyoto to Tottori and Okayama, it's easy to access the area from any of these cities. (Limited express trains don't stop here, but you can still enjoy shops and scenery around the transfer stations.)

A new kind of countryside attracting newcomers from across Japan and around the world! After the experience, explore local shops in the area. *This is a self-guided activity; no guide is provided.

Nishiawakura Village, where the experience takes place, is gaining attention in Japan as a hub for local ventures—new businesses that make use of regional resources. Surrounded by greenery, this tranquil village is also home to a variety of unique restaurants, accommodations, and local shops.
