View of Yashima and the cityscape from the quarry

The view from the quarry is spectacular. You can see historical sites from the Genpei War, along with the roof-shaped Yashima and the suburbs of Takamatsu City. On clear days, you may also spot airplanes landing at Takamatsu Airport.

The quarry features a panoramic view from an altitude of 200 meters

The quarry, accessible only to tour participants, reaches an altitude of 200 meters and offers a 360-degree view of the dynamic rock formations of Aji stone. You can also hear the sounds of dump trucks transporting and crushing stones, creating a truly immersive experience.

The mystery and experience of breaking large stones

In your daily life, you probably never think about the task of splitting stones, but quarried stones can be as large as a six-tatami mat room (9.9m²).
How do they split such stones? You can experience the wisdom of our ancestors firsthand. Listen carefully for the creaking sound of the stone as it splits.

Experience the unique quality of the Aji stone, which shines brighter the more it is polished, and create a unique Aji stone souvenir

You will polish round Aji stones, sliced from a stone block roughly the size of a six-tatami mat room (9.9m²), down to the size of a biscuit.
Normally, the stone is polished to a mirror finish using 8 or 9 types of whetstones, but this time you will polish them in 4 steps until they become smooth.
As part of a project currently being carried out to make Aji stone more accessible and accepted as an interior decoration, you will make a stone mobile similar to that exhibited in art exhibitions out of your biscuit-shaped stones.
This piece of Aji stone interior décor sways gently and makes a lovely clanging sound like seashells.
You can take home the stone mobile as a memento of your trip. Of course, you can also take home the Kirara Pad that you used to polish your stones, so that you can polish them again at home.

Mt. Goken and the quarry seen from Yashima

The Aji stone production area is located at the foot of Mt. Goken (a mountain with five peaks) and Yashima (an island), which face each other. You can see the unusual shape of Mt. Goken and the quarry from Yashima. You can also hear explanations about the places where the stones were transported by boat in the past and how the stones were transported from the mountains (the quarry site).

Schedule

  • Meet-up / Reception

Please present the My Page reservation screen upon reception. You will be guided on a tour to experience (1) (2) (3) by car. After the tour, you will return and participate in the experience (4).

  • (1) The scenic view of the islands of the Seto Inland Sea and Mt. Ishikiri from the observation deck

From Yashima, located at an altitude of 292 meters, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea and the city.
Take a commemorative photo of the magnificent view from the unobstructed observation point. You will also hear about the local area and the mountain on the opposite side of the canal, where the stone quarry is located.

  • (2) Enter the impressive stone quarry

You can get a close-up view of the massive heavy machinery used to cut and transport the stones. This is a rare opportunity to see the quarry in action.
