Watch Japanese swords being forged up close at a workshop

Appreciate the skills of authentic swordsmiths certified by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.

The experience of making a knife

You will be asked to help in the final stage of making the Samurai Knife.

The finished knife can be taken home right from the workshop.

The knife you make can be taken back to your home country as checked luggage, so it's a great way to remember your trip.


Schedule

  • Gather at the forge/Reception

    You can experience traditional swordsmithing under the guidance of a craftsman in a swordsmith's workshop certified by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
    Please present the My Page reservation screen at the reception.

  • Demonstration of Japanese sword making (forging)

    You will be able to watch an up-close demonstration of traditional swordsmithing, a process of folding and kneading steel heated to 1200 degrees Celsius.

  • Knife-making

    You will make a knife that can be used in real life. After shaping with a file, it is heated to 800°C for forging and polishing.

  • Take it home.

    The knife is small, but made with authentic Japanese swordsmithing techniques. The knife you make will truly be one of a kind. It is sure to become a precious memento of your visit to Japan.
