Activity
Sasahara, a small community in Chino, Nagano Prefecture, is known for its freezing cold winters
In Sasahara, there is a traditional preserved food called "shimi," which utilizes the freezing temperatures during the cold season to dry foods.
Frozen tofu, frozen daikon, frozen rice cakes, and other "shimi," or frozen, ingredients that can only be made in places where temperatures drop below -10°C.
You will learn a traditional recipe that incorporates plenty of such "shimi" ingredients from a local granny.
A special experience to learn how to make and eat local dishes using frozen ingredients.
This is a rare opportunity to experience and learn about the unique culinary culture of the area.
