Activity

Make original ice cream spoons made entirely with 999 sterling silver

Silver is a better conductor of heat than metal stainless steel or aluminum, so the ice cream will be soft enough to eat without having to wait for it to melt.

The teacher is a master silver craftsman, Sosho Kamikawa.

Since the Edo Genroku period, craftsmen for silverwork have been called "Shiroganeshi". During the experience, the "Shiroganeshi" craftsman will teach you how to do the work carefully and easily.

Includes explanations about the traditional craft

Tokyo silverware is a traditional craft of Tokyo. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of downtown Tokyo and the culture of craftsmanship that has been handed down since the Edo period.

Sterling silver items have long been considered a sign of high society and make great gifts.

You can take home the spoons you make on the day of your experience. At the end of the workshop, the spoons will be presented in a high-quality paulownia wooden box, making it a great gift.

  • Start the experience

You will make a pattern on the handle of the spoon using a hammer on the material prepared in advance. The pattern will vary depending on the hammer used. Try to create a unique pattern!

  • Molding

Use a mallet to make the indentation where the spoon hits the mouth and make it deeper. The degree of tapping will change the feel of the spoon. Mold the indentation as you prefer.

  • Finishing touches

The finishing touches are done by hand polishing. The more you polish, the shinier it becomes.
