The Okhotsk Ryu-hyo Museum, located 207 meters above sea level on the scenic Mt. Tento, is an interactive facility where visitors can encounter drift ice and creatures from the Sea of Okhotsk!
You can enjoy learning about drift ice.
Dive into the colorful world that spreads beneath the drift ice! Enjoy the fantastic world of drift ice!
The live underwater drift ice show provides an experience "as if you were diving" with 360-degree cameras. Our staff will guide you to the sea of drift ice by operating a tablet.
Exhibits mysterious creatures of the Sea of Okhotsk
"Clione," known as the "angel of drift ice," as well as other strange and rare creatures such as "Taranetz's lumpsucker" and "Bering wolffish" are exhibited here. Please be sure to see the clione, which can only be seen during the drift ice season.
In the Drift Ice World Experience Room, visitors can touch real drift ice and experience recreations of sunsets, dawns, and low-latitude auroras.
At the Drift Ice Experience Terrace, you can touch real drift ice indoors at minus 15 degrees Celsius, and the very popular "Shibare Experiment" of freezing wet towels is a highlight. You can also enjoy a performance where you experience the "daily transition of drift ice" through the use of light effects.
The observation terrace offers a 360-degree panorama. The superb view from the summit of Mt. Tento is praised as being "so beautiful that it makes you feel as if you are in the heavenly city."
You can enjoy magnificent 360-degree views of Lake Abashiri, Lake Notoro, Lake Tofutsu, Lake Mokoto, the Shiretoko Mountain Range across the Sea of Okhotsk, and the Akan Mountain Range in all four seasons (spring, summer, fall, and winter).
