What is Sokutai?
Sokutai is a formal dresswear worn by male aristocrats during the Heian period (794-1185). It was formal attire worn by male aristocrats of the fifth rank and above. It is equivalent to modern ceremonial attire, and was worn at court events and ceremonies.
What is the difference between Kari-ginu and Ikan?
Kari-ginu: This is the daily wear of court nobles from the Heian period onward. In modern times, it is worn by Shinto priests as their regular attire. Ikan: Similar to Sokutai, but many of the garments are omitted. The way of wearing Ikan also differs from that of Sokutai. From around the Kamakura period (1185-1333), Ikan became the regular court attire.
