Activity
The combination of traditional and contemporary art stimulates the senses!
The traditions and legends associated with Dogo Onsen are exhibited here under the theme "Dogo of the Ancient Times," making this location a focal point for the development of hot spring culture.
The history of Dogo Onsen is revealed through Ehime's traditions.
Ehime's traditional crafts express the history and world view of Dogo Onsen in five private rooms. Come and immerse yourself in the world of Dogo Onsen created by Ehime's historical crafts such as Iyo mizuhiki-zaiku (paper cord), Tsutsugaki (resist dyeing), and Maki-e (sprinkled pictures).
The pathway leading to the hot springs is decorated with regional crafts!
Visitors can see the traditions of Ehime by viewing sculptures of calligraphy created by calligrapher Shisyu, "thousand-year nails," or Japanese nails, as well as a curtain made of Iyo Kasuri (resist-dyed textiles), one of the three major types of Kasuri in Japan.
A hot-spring bathhouse that takes you back to the Asuka period
Prince Shotoku is said to have visited and bathed at Dogo Onsen. The bathhouse's Asuka-era architectural design makes it perfect as Japan's oldest hot spring.
Rarely seen "Bijin-no-yu (hot water of beauty)"
It is highly rare in Japan to find "Bijin-no-yu" (hot water of beauty), which flows freely from the spring without being heated or watered.
