Activity

Tea ceremony experience in an authentic tea room

In the charming tea room, you can forget about time and experience the elegant tea ceremony. Matcha green tea and sweets will be served.

Instruction by Urasenke school masters

A Urasenke school master will instruct the participants from the start, making it easy for even those who are unfamiliar with the tea ceremony to participate.

Murasaki Shikibu Omi beef gozen will be served to coincide with the 2024 Taiga Drama "Hikaru Kimi e"

This meal's themes are drawn from the Heian period's lifestyle and food culture, as well as the works of Murasaki Shikibu, the well-known author of "The Tale of Genji," who received inspiration for the story at the renowned Ishiyama Temple in Otsu City. Please savor each item individually while connecting it to its historical context.

Omi Beef, Japan's oldest Wagyu brand

Omi beef is one of the three Wagyu brands with a history of over 400 years. Just like other Omi beef, its major characteristics are its beautiful marbling, mellow meat aroma, and melt-in-your-mouth taste.

Matsukiya, a long-established restaurant that spread the name of Omi beef throughout Japan in the early Meiji period

The company started raising beef cattle in Shiga Prefecture, which is its hometown, in the early Meiji period. Later, it changed to shipping beef cattle by ship from Kobe Port in Hyogo Prefecture, which allowed for the widespread shipment of Omi beef.
The Imperial Household Agency, which supports the Japanese Imperial Household, has acknowledged the high quality of the beef and certified the company as a "Imperial Household Agency purveyor"—a business that has been approved by the agency to supply goods needed by the Imperial Household.
