Activity
Experience fishing for ayu (sweetfish) using a traditional technique that is rare even in Japan.
You can experience the rare traditional fishing method called Ayu no Chongake, or sweetfish angling, in which a hook is attached to the tip of the road and pulled to catch fish. This method is easy for anyone to master, resulting in minimal damage to the fish.
You can also enjoy freshly caught salt-grilled sweetfish.
Nobeoka is well-known in Japan for having an abundance of ayu, or sweetfish. By the river, you can savor fresh, fatty sweetfish that has been salt grilled over charcoal. Enjoying ayu you caught yourself while taking in the gorgeous river views would definitely make the fish taste even better!
While waiting, you can have some free time to play in the water.
Playing in the river, sea kayaking, and SUP are available (paid on-site) in the stream, which is referred to as a miraculously transparent stream with great clarity. While you wait for your ayu (sweetfish) to be prepared, or even after you've eaten it, you can enjoy your free time in the water.

Transfer to the river
We will guide you to the river where you can experience Ayu no Chongake (sweetfish angling)
Explanations of Ayu no Chongake (sweetfish angling), explanation of notes
We will provide you with a tent by the river so you can change into clothes and swimsuits suitable to enter the river. After you finish changing, we will explain how to fish for ayu (sweetfish) and the precautions to take. It is not difficult, so don't worry.
Experience Ayu no Chongake (sweetfish angling)
You will receive goggles and a special rod. Place your face on the water's surface and look for ayu (sweetfish). When you find one, just pull the rod! How many fish can you catch?
Grill fresh ayu (sweetfish) over charcoal
While receiving guidance from the staff, you can even skewer ayu (sweetfish) yourself. After sprinkling plenty of salt on the skewers and grilling them over a charcoal, be sure to enjoy them freshly made.
