Take a tour of the historical Kumihimo (braided cords)

By viewing the historical braiding archive of DOMYO, you will have the opportunity to witness the history and development of braiding in Japan.

Experience the essence of traditional Japanese craftsmanship

By witnessing a live demonstration by skilled artisans, you can truly experience the profoundness of Japan's traditional craftsmanship.

Authentic Kumihimo Experience (Create a phone strap or bracelet with Nara-style braiding)

You can enjoy the experience of making braided cords using authentic tools and hand-dyed silk threads, just like the ones used by craftsmen.

Shop at the store

Enjoy shopping at the store that offers a variety of products using braided cords.

You can also visit the Ueno Main Store Workshop as an option (additional fee required).

You can add the option to enjoy a private tour of the Ueno Main Store Workshop and shopping.

    Please go to Kumihimo Experience by DOMYO. Please present your My Page reservation screen at reception.

  • Luggage storage available at the lounge

    Please deposit your belongings in the customer-exclusive lockers.

  • Museum tour

    Please come and witness the exhibition of restored historical artifacts and demonstrations by skilled craftsmen.

  • Braided cord activity fee

    You can create a bracelet or phone strap using authentic tools and hand-dyed silk, just like the ones craftsmen use.

  • Take a break in the lounge

    During the finishing process, please enjoy tea and snacks in the lounge. We will complete the work within the designated time, and you will be able to take your piece home on the same day.

[Kumihimo Experience by DOMYO (Yusoku Kumihimo DOMYO Kagurazaka)]
Established in 1652, the long-standing Kumihimo (braided cord) shop "DOMYO" is committed to hand-dyeing and hand-braiding, preserving the traditional art of Kumihimo even in the modern era of mechanized production. Each piece is meticulously dyed and skillfully braided by experienced craftsmen, resulting in obi cords with high elasticity and a glossy texture.
The Kumihimo Experience by DOMYO (Yusoku Kumihimo DOMYO Kagurazaka), which opened in spring 2023, is a new base for promoting new initiatives while carrying on the traditions that have been passed down through generations.

[Notes]
•Reception start time (reservation time) at 5:30 PM is only available on Fridays.
•As there are several patterns of threads set up on the braiding stands, please choose your preferred braiding stand while imagining the finished product.

[Option/Ueno Main Store Workshop Tour]
•The workshop tour can be arranged on a date other than your reservation date. If you have a preferred date and time, please provide it in the additional information field.
*Please arrange your own transportation to the workshop. Additionally, transportation expenses will be at your own cost.
