Suifu Chochin is one of Japan's three major paper lanterns

It is said that Mito is one of the three major lantern production areas in Japan, along with Gifu and Yame (Fukuoka Prefecture).

Make lanterns with a history of about 400 years

During the Edo period, the production of Suifu Chochin lanterns played a crucial role in sustaining the livelihood of the residents of Mito.

Original Lantern Plan

By placing an order in advance for the characters you wish to have on the lantern, you can have your favorite characters or name inscribed.

You can create your own design

You can freely draw any design you like in the blank spaces, so you can create your own Suifu Chochin lantern.

It's lightweight and compact, so it's recommended as a souvenir

Lanterns are popular as souvenirs because they can be neatly folded and do not take up much space, which is essential when traveling.

Schedule

  • Meet-Up & Reception

    Please present the My Page reservation screen at the reception desk.

  • Lantern making step (1) Wrapping

    Frame is assembled, and wire is wound around.

  • Lantern making step (2) Glueing

    Apply glue and paste the painted paper.

  • Lantern making step (3) Painting

    Paint on Japanese paper

  • Completion

    Once you've finished applying the paper, allow it to dry, and then it will be complete.

[Regarding Original Inscriptions]
Please inform us of the characters you want on your lantern at the time of booking through the additional information field. (We need to prepare a draft in advance)
For kanji characters, the guideline is 3 characters (hiragana and katakana are also possible), and for English characters, it is 5 characters (uppercase and lowercase possible).
*If you exceed the number of characters, please consult us beforehand.
