Activity
Visit Japan's first Yokai Museum in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima!
The museum displays a collection of about 5,000 Yokai-related items, including emaki (painted handscrolls), nishiki-e (woodblock prints), and ceramics, donated by folklorist and Yokai researcher Koichi Yumoto.
Explore the museum's digital yokai encyclopedia!
You can experience many of Japan's Yokai on a large touch screen monitor. By selecting the types, habitats, and appearances of the Yokai, you can view related creatures one after another, leading to new discoveries and learning.
Learn all about Ino Mononoke Roku, a famous Yokai story from the mid-Edo period!
In 1749, the 16-year-old boy Heitaro Ino, who lived in Miyoshi, experienced supernatural phenomena related to Yokai over the course of 30 days. These events are introduced through handscrolls, picture books, and booklets.
Create your own Yokai in the TeamLab Yokai Park
Watch as the Yokai you've drawn (such as kappas, tengu, jinmen zoshi, etc.) and the people (boys and girls) you've created start walking around in the huge meadow right before your eyes!
Enjoy a variety of exhibitions, including the museum's permanent exhibition—the Japanese Yokai Exhibition, and Ino Mononoke Roku, as well as special exhibitions that are held 3-4 times a year!
Yokai emerged from the anxiety and fear humans experienced in response to natural phenomena beyond their understanding. These exhibits demonstrate how Yokai have been deeply integrated into people's lives, as seen through paintings, books, daily objects, toys, and more.
