Join the painting experience using real lacquer

Make your own unique item using your favorite colors and patterns to paint on your chopsticks.

A craftsman will offer detailed guidance

Rest assured—skilled artisans certified as Traditional Kagawa Craftsmen and experts in lacquerware will guide you with care and attention.

The experience takes place inside the Sanuki Lacquerware Museum

Not only can you enjoy the experience, but you can also view numerous exhibits.


Schedule

  • Arrival procedures

    Show the reservation page from your My Page upon arrival.

  • Experience introduction

    Kanako Nakata, a chopstick craftsman from Nakata Shikki, will walk you through the process and share important tips before you begin.

  • Activity start

    First, choose the length and color of your chopsticks. Then, decide on the design you’d like to paint.

  • Painting experience

    You will use colored lacquer and a brush to paint various motifs.

  • Experience end

    Once completed, your item will be kept at the workshop to allow the lacquer to harden. It will be delivered to you in about one week.

Things guests need to prepare on the day of the activity (clothes, belongings, etc.)

• Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. To prevent lacquer rash, wear long sleeves that cover your wrists and clothing that minimizes skin exposure.

• Bring an apron or arm covers if available.

• Prepare any designs or patterns you'd like to paint on the chopsticks.

• This experience uses real lacquer. Please be cautious if you have sensitive skin or are prone to lacquer rash. If you have a lacquer allergy, please refrain from participating.
• Children under 13 years old can participate if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
