Activity
Mt. Tarumae, an active volcano with a unique Japanese custard pudding-shaped lava dome
The most recent eruption was in 1982, and it is still an active volcano, spewing smoke from its lava dome.
Admire the alpine plants that bloom in each season
Due to the high altitude, you can enjoy a variety of alpine plants while hiking.

Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, Lake Shikotsu, and Mt. Yotei.
An excursion route that goes around the lava dome at the top of the mountain
You can walk around the volcano's caldera and enjoy new views every step of the way.

Mt. Usu trailhead
A free shuttle will take you to the Mt. Usu trailhead. (approx. 60 minutes)
Summit
Hike to the top of the mountain. (approx. 60 minutes)
Walk the caldera / Break
We will walk around the caldera of Mt. Tarumae and take a lunch break while admiring the spectacular view. (approx. 90 minutes)
Descending the mountain, to the parking lot and adex base
Walk down the mountain and head to the parking lot (approx. 45 minutes). Return to adex base by free shuttle (approx. 60 minutes).
