Take a walk through the village and learn about its history

Visitors can learn about the history of the village and the papier-mâché while taking a guided tour of the 4 workshops.

Learn about the culture of daily life in an old Japanese folk house

Visitors will learn about the unique lifestyle and culture of the village at an old Japanese folk house café and workshop.

Learn about the thoughts of the creator and experience the craftsmanship.

Observe the craftsmanship of wooden molds, pasting Washi paper, cutting, and processing, and learn about the craftsman's thoughts and feelings behind their creations.

Choose a Daruma doll and paint its eyes

Paint eyes on Daruma dolls made by 4 workshops.

Watch the Hyottoko dance that has been passed down in this area.

Observe the Hyottoko Dance, a tradition that involves emptying one's mind in order to approach one's craft.

  • Take a stroll

    Introduction to the history of the village and the craft of papier-mâché at Oichi Tea House

  • Honke Daikokuya (Cafe Decorico)

    Order one drink at the café. *You may also order food for an additional fee. There will be an introduction to the various varieties and definitions of papier-mâché.

  • Ebisuya, Hikoji Mingei

    Observe the papier-mâché process and craftsmanship, as well as the painting process.

  • Hashimoto Hiroji Mingei

    Visitors will be able to paint eyes on Daruma doll and observe the Hyottoko dance performance.
