About Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko
A museum where visitors can learn about Sakai through Sen no Rikyu and Yosano Akiko, both of whom are associated with the city
Experience the world of Sen no Rikyu and Akiko Yosano, both associated with Sakai, along with the immersive VR experience of the historic moat-encircled city of Sakai.
Recreates the townscape of ancient Sakai with three-dimensional holographic imagery!
Sakai Enishi-an is a store inside the Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko
A variety of Sakai souvenirs such as delicious Sakai sweets and incense sticks are also available!
One notable feature is the Sakai-Taian, a reconstruction of the tea ceremony room originally designed by Sen no Rikyu. It stands as the sole existing national treasure Tai-an tea ceremony room in its original form!
In addition to seeing the exterior, you can also go inside.

Tourist Information Exhibition Room: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (last admission at 5:30 PM)
Closed: 3rd Tuesday of the month (or the following day if Tuesday is a national holiday) and year-end and New Year holidays

• The VR experience is not available for children 0-12 years old.
• Please be at the meeting place with your ticket redeemed 5 minutes prior to the VR experience.
• Multilingual support is available (Japanese, English, French, Chinese, and Korean)

• Please refrain from eating and drinking outside of the designated areas for hygiene purposes.
• Smoking is prohibited in the entire building.
• Please use only pencils for writing to prevent any damage to the exhibits.
• Photography or videography in certain areas is discouraged to ensure the protection of the exhibits.
• For the safety of the exhibits, please refrain from bringing umbrellas into the exhibition rooms.
• Large items should not be brought into the exhibition rooms. Please utilize the lockers provided.
• To maintain a peaceful environment in the tea room area, we kindly ask for your cooperation in keeping noise to a minimum. Please turn off or switch your cell phones to silent mode. Also, please be aware that running in the exhibition rooms or corridors is dangerous, so please supervise your children accordingly.
• Pets are not allowed inside the premises. However, entry with service animals (guide dogs, hearing dogs, etc.) for assistance purposes is permitted. Additionally, bringing plants is also prohibited for environmental management.
• Hazardous materials are not allowed.
• Entry will be denied to individuals who are intoxicated. Please adhere to the staff's instructions, as we will promptly address any behavior that may disrupt other visitors. Failure to comply may result in being asked to leave the premises.
• Wheelchairs and strollers are available for rent, but please note that their number is limited.
