The Tokai region consists of four prefectures, Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, and Mie, and is located in the center of Japan. Aichi Prefecture is known as the center of the automobile industry, with Nagoya in particular being its economic center. Shizuoka Prefecture is also famous for Mt. Fuji and tea production. Historically, it is an area along the Tokaido Highway and it has long been an important commercial and transportation center.
